ACC has produced an Antique Furniture Price Index – illustrating the performance of seven different categories of antique furniture – since 1968.
In this article, taken from the 2013 Oak and Country issue of Antique Collecting, John Andrews uses the ACC indices to examine the current state of the antique furniture market, with particular attention to oak and country furniture. Coincidentally, both categories have suffered from a similar decline in recent years to the main Index, although not to the same extent. Andrews highlights the influences behind the changes in the market and assesses the prospects of particular categories of antique furniture from oak and country stables, including: side tables, corner cupboards, Windsor chairs, bureaus, chests and buffets amongst others.
