Suffolk artist steals the scene at Durrants
Durrants Auctioneers recent Antiques and Fine Art Sale saw fierce bidding for the ‘Sally Kibble Collection’ of pictures by Thomas Churchyard.
60 lots were offered in total – predominantly watercolours of Suffolk scenes including Woodbridge, Lowestoft, Aldeburgh, and Southwold.
The auction house said the sale remained competitive throughout as a private collection like the one offered is rare to find and come to market. The star lot of the day was a watercolour of ‘Gun Hill, Southwold’, (left) which sold for £6,500 (before premium), and is believed to be a world record price for a watercolour by this much loved East Anglian Artist.
Other highlights from the sale included ‘The path from Gun Hill to the Beach at Southwold’ (which sold for £3,100 before premium); ‘Saint Mary’s Church (£1,250 before premium); and ‘South Green, Southwold’ (£1,000 before premium).
Durrants’ next sale of Fine Art and Antiques will be held on Friday 26th June.
