New auction reflects changing tastes
Sworders auctioneers in Stansted Mountfitchet in Essex is launching a new class of fortnightly auctions that it hopes will reflect changing tastes in the antiques and interiors world and appeal to a wider audience.
Whilst continuing to include traditional antiques, the Homes & Interiors auctions at Sworders’ will offer a range of high quality modern and antique furnishings for the home and garden that provide a unique and affordable alternative to the high street furniture shops.
“The idea is to create a wide range of styles catering for all tastes and to serve as a one-stop-shop for your interior design needs,” says specialist James Pickup, who has masterminded the project. “The sales are a perfect introduction for newcomers to the auction world.
“From the bedroom to the garden and from the 17th century to the present day, we offer a broad range of items arranged alongside each other to help provide inspiration when designing your home interiors.”
The sales are designed to be accessible and user friendly. They will be fully illustrated online the Friday before each Tuesday sale, with viewings held on the Monday evening until 7pm to give time for people to visit after work.
Sworders’ staff will be on hand to help with any questions, no matter how trivial they seem, and will even take a photo of an item you are interested in so that you can take it home and show the rest of the family.
The first of the new-style Homes & Interiors sales will take place on September 6 and will include garden furniture and ornaments.
Lots on offer will include items similar to those pictured here, which range in price from around £100 to around £2000.
Sworders managing director Guy Schooling said: “We constantly monitor our customers’ priorities and it has become clear that these days people tend to approach auctions primarily from a decorating and interiors perspective. Our new sales format reflects that trend. It’s a case of adapting your business to the client’s needs rather than expecting the client to fit an unchanging template.”
