Early oak in The Pedestal sale
Early oak and country furniture is included as a designated section for the first time in The Pedestal’s auction, Fine Furniture & Objects including Early Oak and Carpets, at Moor Park Mansion in Hertfordshire next week.
The Pedestal team commented, “Whether it is the depth of colour and centuries of patination on a piece from the 17th century or the versatility of oak when it comes to blending into a more contemporary styled interiors, this remains a popular area of collecting for buyers.”
Consignments for the sale include various furniture, from coffers and chests to refectory tables. We’ve picked out five lots that caught our eye from the auction due to take place on November 21.
A late 19th century Gothic style carved oak canopy cupboard, with an estimate of £3,000 to £4,000.
A Charles I oak marriage chest, with an estimate of £2,500 – £4,000
A James I oak livery cupboard from the West Country, with an estimate of £3,000 – £5,000
A north european oak refectory table, early 18th century, probably Dutch, with an estimate of £2,000 – £3,000
A large 17th century style oak double gate-leg dining table, with an estimate of £500 – £800
