Picasso ceramics see strong sales
The recent Picasso Ceramics Online sale at Christie’s realised a total of £1,633,125.
The sought-after sale was led by Service visage noir (A.R. nos. 35-47), 1948, estimated at £40,000-60,000 (seen in middle above) which sold for £137,500 achieving over double its pre-sale high estimate and setting a new world auction record for any Picasso Ceramic service.
The online auction saw strong prices which, in many cases exceeded pre-sale expectations including Taureau (A.R. 255), 1955, selling for £93,750 against a low estimate of £60,000, Hibou (A.R. 224), 1953, (seen above left) selling at £100,000 against a low estimate of £40,000, and Vase aztèque aux quatre visages (A.R. 402), 1957 (seen above right) which sold for £100,000 against an estimate of £55,000-75,000.
