Ushak rug is sale highlight
An unusually designed Ushak rug with a Persian-inspired style, was one of the key lots in Gloucestershire auction house Chorley’s recent sale, selling for £8,500.
Chorley’s Fine Art & Antiques, Books & Sporting Art auction raised a hammer total of £374,000, with 90% of lots sold.
Elsewhere in the sale, other items of interest included:
a pair of William IV mahogany library bergère armchairs which sold for £7,500
A rare illuminated book entitled Hore intemerate Virginis Mariae second(um) Usum Romanum on a printed base and dated to 1505 sold for £7,500.
A portrait by George Henry Harlow (1787-1819) of the grandfather of one of the co-founders of Rolls Royce , John EW Rolls, sold for £7,500.
One of three lots of Grand Tour plaster intaglios, the three lots collectively achieved £4,750.
