Roman glass flask at Farnborough fair
Surrey-based antique glass specialist, Mark West, has some real surprises up his sleeve for the Classic Antique Fairs event at Farnborough, Hampshire this September, including two pieces of Roman glass.
Mark, who used to have a shop in Wimbledon and has been dealing in antiques for over fifty years, is also taking what he says is a ‘very good collection’ of 18th-century English glass.
One of the two Roman pieces is a ten-inch-high flask that is in perfect condition with a price tag of £4,600. Another unusual item destined for his stand is a dessert pyramid of glass dated around 1750 worth £1,600.
Mark exhibited at Classic Antique Fairs’ (CAF) inaugural event at the NEC last year and again this month saying the fairs looked wonderful and attracted some keen buyers. He is looking forward to the Farnborough Fair as his ‘local’ event.
Mark, who believes a nice glass makes a nice drink, began to specialise in the area when he realised he could sell people desirable antique glassware more cheaply than they could buy the modern equivalents.
He will be joined by specialists in a range of fields from ceramics and paintings to jewellery and furniture who are returning to the fair which takes place from September 20-22.
