Lowry print tops sale
A Lowry print has topped the best-sellers in The Cotswold Auction Company’s recent sale.
The urban street scene – with figures in the foreground and a factory in the background – sold for a hammer of £1,800.
Laurence Stephen Lowry (1887 – 1976) is best known for painting urban scenes depicting the industrial districts of Greater Manchester and the north-west of England.
Other top sellers in the auction included a Bruno Lach Art Deco bronze of two ballet dancers, which hammered down at £1,500, and an early 20th-century embroidered Chinese robe which fetched £1,250 against an estimate of £200 to £400.
Auctioneer Liz Poole said: “Lowry’s work is always popular at auction and the colour print in this sale was no exception.”
