Qianlong vase smashes estimate
A sought-after Chinese vase estimated at £200-300 because of damage went on to impress at auction when it sold for an impressive total of £11,700.
The 21cm-high Qianlong period green ground porcelain Benbahu vase, painted with auspicious symbols and lotus motifs, had been consigned by a local vendor. Although a fine piece of mark and period, it had been estimated at just £200-300 owing to existing damage and significant prior repairs.
The vase sold to a buyer in the Far East.
Auction house John Nicholson’s said that Chinese porcelain continues to impress at auction, as demonstrated in their recent Islamic & Oriental Art auction.
