Eric Knowles to host free valuation day
Antique Collecting columnist, BBC Bargain Hunt regular and antiques expert Eric Knowles will be part of a team of expert valuers holding a free valuations day in Staffordshire this month.
Hansons Auctioneers is set to host a special day of free valuations at Sparrow’s Tearoom at Bishton Hall in Staffordshire March 12. Antiques enthusiasts and treasure hunters are invited to join Eric, along with a team of specialists, for a unique opportunity to have their items valued by some of the most respected names in the business.

Eric Knowles, who has over 40 years of experience in the antiques world, will be leading the event, offering his expertise to those looking to learn more about their treasures. He said: “I’m really looking forward to seeing what people bring along. There’s always excitement in uncovering hidden gems, whether it’s an antique with historical significance or an unexpected find. I can’t wait to meet people and help them understand the true value of their items. If you’ve got something at home you’re curious about, bring it along!”

As well as Eric’s antique expertise, visitors will also have access to Elizabeth Passey, Hansons’ expert jewellery valuer, who will be available from 10am to 12pm to assess gold, jewellery, and watches. Whether it’s a family heirloom or a modern piece, Elizabeth will provide a professional auction valuation and offer advice on the potential sale of items at auction.
Also joining the team from 10am to 12pm will also be Stuart Palmer, Hansons’ specialist in wine, whisky, and spirits. Stuart will be available to value any fine wine, rare whisky, or special bottles, making this the perfect opportunity for collectors to learn about the worth of their liquid assets.

Charles Hanson, owner of Hansons Auctioneers, commented: “We’re delighted to bring such a knowledgeable team of experts together for this event. Eric’s wealth of experience speaks for itself, and with Elizabeth and Stuart also offering their expertise, there will be something for everyone. Whether you’re interested in antiques, jewellery, or even fine wine and spirits, it’s a great opportunity to learn more about the value of your items. Plus, we’ll be on hand to help consign any items to auction on the day.”
The event will take place in the beautiful surroundings of Bishton Hall, with visitors invited to explore the stunning gardens or relax with homemade cakes and refreshments at Sparrow’s Tearoom. No appointment is necessary, and attendees can simply drop in between 10am and 4pm on March 12 to have their items valued.
