Phillip Lucas collection at Dreweatts

Berkshire auction house Dreweatts will present Curated Collections: Phillip Lucas, Spitalfields House & The Aaron Nejad Gallery – a two-day sale that looks set to be a veritable Aladdin’s cave for collectors.

Phillip Lucas’ Spitalfields House is legendary amongst today’s generations of aesthetes, doubling as a living showroom, showcasing 18th and 19th-century English and continental antiques.

With its period-authentic interiors and rare pieces, it exemplifies Lucas’ refined eye for provenance and patina. A barrister by profession, Lucas has built a reputation for sourcing pieces with character and a past, with a discerning eye and appreciation for exquisite craftsmanship.

His friend and interior designer Max Rollitt writes in his introduction to the auction catalogue “The only real downside to Phillip’s collecting habits is that he gets to them before the rest of us do. But at least when he lets a few go, we all get a chance to enjoy them – and that, in itself, is something to be grateful for”.

Meanwhile, The Aaron Nejad Gallery brings its renowned selection of antique carpets, rugs, textiles, and tapestries collected over three decades to the auction — including decorative village and tribal rugs from Persia, Central Asia, Anatolia, and the Caucasus. With their rich natural dyes and intricate motifs, these pieces are not just floor coverings but timeless works of art, ideal for grounding a space with history and warmth.

The sale takes place on May 7 and 8.
