Desirable designer handbags in Cotswolds sale
A collection of sought-after and highly collectable designer handbags will be offered in an upcoming sale at a Cotswold auction house this summer.
Auctioneers Kinghams said that their specialist auction on July 10 will offer a variety of standout lots, including a limited edition Christian Dior x Travis Scott Cactus Jack duffle bag. This extremely rare item was part of the Cactus Jack Dior collaboration, blending Dior’s luxury craftsmanship with rapper Travis Scott’s streetwear aesthetic, released as part of Dior’s 2022 menswear collection. The Cactus Jack duffle was released in extremely limited numbers, with only 47 ever made. The auction house said it is excited to have the first one issued, 01/47, making it a highly collectable item.
The sale also features a wonderful selection of Hermés handbags, including a 2022 Mini Ostrich Kelly II 20 handbag, a 2007 crocodile Kelly 32 handbag, a 1998 Birkin HAC 45 and a 2012 Birkin 35 handbag.
The Mini Kelly II is one of the most coveted and exclusive handbags produced by Hermés. Renowned for being notoriously difficult to obtain, one crafted from such exotic materials such as ostrich is especially rare, with very limited availability.
For lovers of vintage handbags, the auction also has a rare 1976 collector’s edition Whiting & Davis Star Series Clarke Gable portrait mesh purse. The bag features a portrait of Clark Gable on a blue enamel background, with a gilt top frame, kiss-lock closure, long chain shoulder strap and silk interior lining. In 1976, to celebrate their 100th anniversary, Whiting & Davis produced the Heritage Collection, known as the ‘Star Series.’ These unique bags featured images of four legendary actresses and actors. The majority of the bags were recalled and destroyed because of objections and threats of legal action from the stars’ heirs. Therefore, these bags are highly sought-after by collectors.
The handbags form part of a combined luxury auction of Jewellery, Watches, and Designer Goods held over two days on July 9-10.
