Arts & Crafts Inspiration at Cotswolds Decorative Fair
A superb collection of English Arts & Crafts furniture from leading designers of the Decorative Arts Movement will feature at The Cotswolds Decorative Antiques & Fine Art Fair at Westonbirt School, near Tetbury, from 14th-16th August 2015.
Specialist dealers Steve Bentley Decorative Arts will be showing a range of carefully assembled pieces typical of the Arts & Crafts period that influenced early 20th century architecture and design. Pieces designed for Liberty’s and Morris & Co. feature among a range of furniture, lighting, silver and metalwork. Among the most desirable items will be a rare oak fireside chair designed and made by Arthur Simpson of Kendal, (18571922), circa 1925, on sale £2,950; and a rare ‘Sussex’ chair designed by the Arts & Crafts architect Philip Webb (1831-1915) for Morris & Co, made circa 1880 and priced at £695.
The Cotswolds Fair
“The Cotswolds Decorative Antiques & Fine Art Fair is a very popular summer event for collectors,” explains organiser Sue Ede of Cooper Events, who has been running the fair for more than ten years. “The fair offers a wide variety of pieces for collectors, home furnishers, interior designers and anyone looking for unusual decorative accessories.”
The Great Hall, Orangery and adjoining rooms of Westonbirt House are filled with everything from Victorian and 20th Century lighting, country furniture and Mid-Century Modern to eye-catching Art Deco, contemporary sculpture and illustrative art, including ceramics, glass, silver, jewellery, textiles, Victorian paintings, period lighting, clocks.
There are dealers showing stylish 20th century designer pieces, such as Scandinavian by Design, Antiques by Design, Paul Burnett, Not Wanted on Voyage and Mere Antiques. Traditional antique furniture, including farmhouse tables, dressers and chairs will be shown by Melody Antiques and Brian Ashbee Antiques, while Mark Buckley Antiques specialise in Victorian and early Edwardian walnut and mahogany pieces.
Other specialists include jewellery dealers Plaza, Brieve Antiques, Terry Robert, Trivette and Shapiro & Co, while Candice Horley shows a range of designer costume jewellery from the 1930s and 40s.
Silver specialists offer a range of antique and 20th century pieces, including returning exhibitors Malka Levine and Peter McCarthy Antiques.
The fair features a wide selection of original art from specialists including Plumbs Fine Art with contemporary works and A.J.Art with Modern British artists.
Also specialising will be Enid Riley with sewing tools and collectables, The Ambulist with swordsticks, canes and walking sticks, Roger de Ville with early English pottery, and Lynways specialising in vintage and Retro glass and ceramics.
