Clarice Cliff collection makes thousands

A significant single-owner collection of Clarice Cliff ceramics, among other lots by the famed ceramicist, has achieved remarkable results at Anderson & Garland’s Summer Country House & Fine Interiors Auction. The collection in total, amassed over £40,000 including fees.
Highlights from the auction included:

  • A ‘Football’ pattern hexagonal vase sold for £2,470 (all prices include fees)
  • A Fantasque ‘Melon’ pattern conical coffee service fetched £2,080. The Fantasque range, known for its whimsical and fantastical motifs, is among Cliff’s most celebrated lines
  • A ‘Red Picasso’ pattern Isis jug sold for £1,560
  • A Bizarre ‘Circles and Squares’ pattern vase sold for £1,300. The Bizarre line, launched in 1927, is perhaps Cliff’s most iconic series, noted for its avant-garde designs and vibrant hues

In total, over 130 lots of Clarice Cliff items were offered in the Fine Summer sale, raising exactly £40,001 after fees.
The impressive collection included over 300 individual pieces from Dr. Philip Woodward, highlighting the breadth and diversity of Cliff’s artistic output.


The auction house said that the sale was a testament to Cliff’s enduring legacy and the continued high demand for her innovative and colourful ceramics.
