Wartime gift set to sparkle at Fellows
Fellows is to auction a beautiful early 20th century brooch which was gifted to an employee of the Evans-Lombe family at Marlingford Hall, in Norwich.
The piece of jewellery was presented to ‘Nellie’ before she was called up for wartime duty following nine years of service with the family.
The lot, which will be sold in Fellows’ Antique & Modern Jewellery auction in November, is supplemented with a letter of thanks from the family, in which they express their gratitude and how they shall miss her:
“We ask you to accept this brooch as a token of how much you have been to us, and we do hope that you will now be given a job which you will find interesting and that you will be happy.”
The piece was consigned to Fellows earlier this year at a valuation day at Webbs of Wychbold in Worcestershire and is fitted in a Carrington & Co case. Not only does it come with a sentimental story and provenance but a pearl diamond and emerald wreath design to match.
The jewellery will be offered as lot 88 with an estimate of £700-900.
