Unseen Lowry artworks at LAPADA Fair
A collection of previously unseen artwork by renowned English artist L. S. Lowry will be brought to the market for the first time by Rowles Fine Art at the LAPADA Art & Antiques Fair, Berkeley Square, London, 22nd – 27th September 2015.
Dating from the 1920s to 1960s, the works range from sharp, impromptu sketches – one on an envelope – to complete drawings, which display Lowry’s distinctive drawing style.
The collection was first discovered on the Antiques Roadshow earlier in 2015 and will be sold as individual pieces, priced from £15,000 to £49,500.
Michael Howard, author of Lowry: A Visionary Artist, said of the collection: “I was stunned by their quality as drawings. Each of them, in different ways, possess qualities unique to Mr. Lowry and represent him working at his very best”.
Highlights from the collection include: his sketchbook cover, a street scene in Manchester with people, dated April 3rd 1959; a drawing with two people hand in hand, which includes visual notes written in red, dated 1956; as well as a drawing of St Thomas’ Church, Pendleton, Salford.
Frankie Rowles of Rowles Fine Art Gallery comments: “It is with great pleasure that we exhibit these pieces at the 2015 LAPADA Art & Antiques Fair. This collection is one of the most fabulous things we have had the privilege to sell”.
