Christie’s most expensive diamond in sale
With an estimated price of $28million to $42 million (£21 million to £31.5 million), ‘The Pink Promise’, a 14.93 carat oval-shaped fancy vivid pink Type IIa diamond, is billed as the most expensive item of jewellery ever offered for sale at Christie’s Hong Kong.
Part of the auction house’s Magnificent Jewels sale, the diamond is set to be the sale’s top lot, described by Rahul Kadakia, International Head of Jewellery at Christie’s, as “the Picasso of the pink diamond world.” He continues, “When you look at the shape of the stone, it’s so elegant. It’s a cross between an oval and a marquise — what we call a “moval”. It’s a fabulous diamond.”
The diamond is set within a circular-cut diamond surround, gallery and hoop. The stone is enhanced by circular-cut pink diamonds and mounted in platinum.
The sale, which takes place on November 28, also includes another highly-prized diamond – an 8.80-carat fancy intense pink VVSI diamond on a ring with an estimate of $8.8 million – $12 million.
