Hermès Birkin handbag smashes estimate in Surrey
A rare and much sought-after Birkin handbag has sold for an estimate-busting £14,300 in a recent Surrey sale.
Named after the iconic actress Jane Birkin, who died in July aged 76, the Hermès Birkin Veau togo doublure chèvre pigment black handbag 35, which dates to 2008, is made from black leather with gold hardware.
Importantly for collectors of vintage designer handbags, as well as being in fine condition, it came with its original box and dust bags, two keys in a leather clochette, and unused rain protection covers.
Also in the lot was the original felt protection insert, a large box and papers including the original receipt from Hermès New Bond Street dated 17/1/2009.
The estimate was £3,000-5,000.
The sale also included a collection of outfits and accessories from the designer wardrobe of the late Hannelore Smart, wife of Billy Smart Jr.
