Rare Jumeau doll found in trunk

A rare doll found recently in a trunk, is expected to generate a great deal of interest at Lawrences of Crewkerne in Somerset early next year.

Dating to the late 19th century, this porcelain head doll was made by the famous Jumeau factory in France. The doll has glass paperweight eyes, closed mouth and applied ears, and comes with some clothing and a brass miniature bed. It stands 46cms high and has remained largely untouched.

Jumeau are well known for their high quality heads, and are widely collected all around the world.

Lawrences Auctioneer, Simon Jones, said: “We were clearing a property in West Dorset and this doll was found wrapped up in a trunk, the family believe it has been stored in there for over 50 years and this has kept it in good condition. We have achieved some remarkable prices over the years for Jumeau dolls, and this should do very well.”

The doll is included in the January Fine Art Sale with an estimate of £1,000-1,500.
