Classic Daimler to electrify sale
A rare and unusual 1923 Daimler D16 Landaulette that has been fully converted to run solely on an electric rechargeable battery will go under the hammer in South Yorkshire.
The auction house, Wilksinsons, believes that the classic car is one of a kind and has been professionally restored and adapted to run approximately 150 miles on a re-chargable battery, with the added adaptions of power steering and power assisted steps for ease of access.
The fully restored, blue coachwork and interior are in-keeping with its earlier prestigious life, having been originally purchased by the Duke of Hamilton for his wife’s lady-in-waiting, Miss Louise Lind af Hageby (c.1878-1963, who was a Swedish animal rights campaigner, feminist and humanitarian).
The vehicle has two padded and button back seats to the front and a matching sofa style seat to the rear, open topped area. It was designed for travelling in style and comfort and now has the added benefits of running silently on green energy.
The flip switch start and automatic gearbox allow for ease of daily use, with energy recapture brakes to the rear of the vehicle adding more efficiency. The vehicle is MOT and TAX exempt (at time of purchase), chassis number: 21825, registration number: XP8310. Length 14′ x width 5′ 2″ x height 6′.
The car carries an estimate of £110,000- 130,000 in Wilkinsons’ Decorative Arts sale on September 28-29.
