Reagan collection at Christies
The auction of The Private Collection of President and Mrs. Ronald Reagan, the 40th President and First Lady of the United States, is slated for September 2016 to coincide with Christie’s Americana Week sales series in New York.
As per the Reagans’ wishes, proceeds from the auction are designated for The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute.
The sale encompasses furniture, decorative works of art, books, memorabilia, jewellery, paintings, sculpture, drawings and prints from President and Mrs. Reagan’s home in Los Angeles, California.
Included are American, English and Chinese furnishings selected for the home’s beautifully appointed Ted Graber-designed interiors, paying homage to the William Haines ‘Hollywood Regency’ style.
The collection will be sold in a sequence of live and online auctions. The sales are expected to realise in excess of £1.3 million in total.
“Christie’s is honoured to be entrusted with this prestigious collection which offers unprecedented insight into the private lives of President and Mrs. Ronald Reagan,” said Brook Hazelton, President of Christie’s Americas. “Each object offers a ‘through-the-keyhole’ experience revealing as-yet untold stories of two of the 20th century’s most celebrated public figures.”
