Chiswick Auctions Fine Art sale makes a splash
Chiswick Auction’s Fine Art sale saw Percy William Gibbs’ The Bathers make £31,200 (including a buyer’s premium of 20 percent) – a possible record for the artist.
The large canvas , measuring 127 x 101cm c. 1930 signed lower right, shows a delightful group of paddlers, rowers and bathers on a summer’s day.
Chiswick Auction’s Nicola Rae-Wicham said: “Our Fine Art catalogue is shaped by daily discoveries that private vendors and collectors bring to us, so there are also very affordable pieces on offer. Pieces also included work by Alfred Sisley and Paul César Helleu.”
The June 9 sale also saw three Czech artists: Jan Bauch, Rudolf Vejrych and Otakar Nejedly sell for creditable amounts.
Jan Bauch’s Bathing Nudes, dated 1945 made £5,760; while Rudolf Vejrych’s The Goddess and her Nymphs achieved £2,160. Otakar Nejedly’s The Wood Gatherer made £8,880.
