Little classic with big personality in Charterhouse sale
A vintage micro car, with just a 250cc engine is one of the cheekier looking cars going under the hammer this month at Charterhouse’s sale.
Estimated at £10,000 – £12,000, the Goggomobil, with its 247cc two stroke engine with 13.6 hp, has a top speed of 47mph.
Goggomobil was a series of microcars produced in the Bavarian town Dingolfing after World War II by Glas.
The 1963 Glas goggomobil TS250 coupe is one of 70 classic and vintage on offer with estimates ranging from £1,000 to £140,000.
Charterhouse’s head of classic cars, Matthew Whitney said, “We have some fabulous entries into this specialist auction. However, for me it is the cheeky little Goggomobile which has put a smile on my face. Looking at a photograph of the car, you do not realise how diminutive it is.”
The Goggomobil T250 was introduced by Glas at the 1954 IFMA international bicycle and motorcycle show. The conventional-looking two-door sedan had a rear-mounted 245 cc air-cooled two-stroke straight twin engine.
Design changes were made to the T250 in 1957 when two windshield wipers were used instead of the earlier system of one, and the sliding windows in the doors were changed to wind-up windows.
The sale at Sherborne Castle on July 19, is in conjunction with the Classics at the Castle Car Show on the same day.
