Sydney fair targets young buyers
Australia’s celebrated five-day Sydney Antiques & Art Fair which starts tomorrow is aiming to attract younger buyers to the event and show them the beauty and value of the world of antiques.
Chris Hughes, Vice President of the Australian Antique & Art Dealers Association, says, “I want to ignite a fire within the youth of today. I want them to understand and to see the value and beauty in the things that are offered at the Fair. We want to invite young minds to explore the rare, whimsical and historical stories that linger within the soul of each object for sale.”
The Kensington Room and Royal Randwick will offer a treasure trove of international and local antiques and art, Chris says his mission is to not only spread the joy and magical journeys of antiques but to breathe a fresh perspective into an industry that can have a slightly stagnant image. He says, “The word antique refers to anything over 100 years old, which means it is an ever-changing market; a market that evolves with the times, the trends, and the trades. This is not about old versus new, this is about collisions, collaboration, and contrasts that present an opportunity, to tell a story, to start an enthralling conversation.”
The fair will play host to over 35 of the top dealers from across Australia, including The Antique Guild, Greene & Greene Judith Rutherford Antique Chinese Textiles, and Simpson’s Antiques, with vendors offering art, furniture, jewellery, silver and other treasures dating back to the 15th to 20th centuries.
