Decorative Fair to set sail with nautical theme
Plans for the much-anticipated foyer display at the Autumn Decorative Antiques & Textiles Fair are looking ship-shape as the organisers have announced it have a nautical theme, presenting The Admiral’s Eyrie, a gentleman’s study-come-sitting room with a twist of sea-farer’s folly.
The foyer’s design will see formal antique furniture mix with modern accent pieces, whilst accessories will encompass marine instruments, pictures and works of art, and 20th century ‘boy’s toys’ such as WWII naval binoculars, lighthouse lamps and model boats.
The Autumn Decorative Fair, one of the high points of the Design Season for interior decorators, will have more than 160 exhibitors taking part, all specialist dealers in antique and 20th century design from Britain and Europe. The event is a popular destination for leading members of the international design trade, retail buyers and film stylists who attend the Fair to search out original and unusual furniture, art and accessories to give their projects an individual touch.
At the recent Spring Fair held in April, there was strong demand for classic country house antiques including chintz-upholstered sofas and seating by the renowned firm of Howard & Sons, farmhouse tables and cabinets for use in free-standing kitchens, painted Scandinavian and English 18th century furniture, and traditional accessories such as crystal glassware and chandeliers. In 20th century modern design, luxe finishes such as lacquered goatskin were in vogue, along with mid-century mirrors and statement furniture by leading Scandinavian makers.
The fair takes place from 3-8 October.
