Sales of antiques boost retail figures

An antique chest of drawers in an auctionLeading organisations in the antiques and arts world have welcomed the announcement that sales of antiques have helped to boost the UK’s retails sales in June.

Figures released by the Office of National Statistics stated that second-hand goods made the largest contribution to the non-food category, with sales rising by 92.9% in the year to June.  

Marco Forgione of BADAMarco Forgione, BADA CEO, said; “The news from the Office of National Statistics reinforces what we’ve been seeing since the early part of the year.
 
“In March we saw a significant increase in the number of sales and interested visitors to the BADA fair. Our curated selling exhibition, BADA Collection at 46 Pimlico Road, attracted unprecedented interest and online bada.org is attracting record numbers of visitors from around the world, over a third of visitors are from the US, and an unprecedented number of inquiries and sales are being made daily.” 
He added, “It is clear that there is a growing demand for antiques.”
