Tinplate Alfa Romeo could race at auction
A 52.5cm-long vintage Alfa Romeo P2 racing car looks set to be one of the highlights of the Toys & Models auction at Ewbank’s in Surrey on July 14.
From a series of tinplate cars made by French company CIJ from the mid 1920s to the mid 1930s, this example has a green finish (the British racing colour) with moulded rubber Michelin tyres, clockwork motor and spoked wheels.
Although it is in need of some restoration and is missing its winding key, it is a much sought-after rarity with the auction house giving it an estimate of £200-300.
