New Suffolk auction house has successful first sale
A new Suffolk-based auction house has had a highly successful sale in its first Fine Art Auction held earlier this month.
Bishop & Miller of Stowmarket had several high-performing items, with a South African Shona/Tsonga headrest proving the star lot as it climbed to over twenty times its estimate of £1000-£1,500, eventually selling on the hammer for £23,000.
The 14cm long by 15cm high headrest features an arched pillow above three columns, raised upon the back of a horned antelope, with wide legs terminating in splayed feet.
Other notable lots were an Art Deco period diamond ring, which achieved a hammer price of £8,900;
a James McCabe 19th Century wall clock, which sold for £2,000;
A rare Jaeger military wrist watch in stainless steel, dated 1948 which sold for £2,800.
Bishop & Miller’s next Fine Art Sale is on Saturday 5th September.
