New antiques fair for Oxfordshire
A new art and antiques fair is set to attract dealers from across the UK when it launches in Oxfordshire later this month. The Burford School Antiques Fair will take place from 30th to 31st July and will feature a wide variety of fine quality art, antiques, collectors’ items and vintage furnishing pieces.
With prices starting at less than £25 to more than £10,000, organiser Caroline Penman, said, “We’ve got something for everyone and it’s such a good time to buy. For instance, how about a charming pair of early 19th century hallmarked sugar tongs, ideal for using for ice cubes, at £30?”
Exhibitors at the new event include Oxfordshire antique furniture specialist WR Harvey will be showing a range of fresh stock including a rare George III tavern clock made by Henry Overall from Ramsey. Sometimes mistakenly known as ‘Act of Parliament clocks, after a law passed in 1797, such clocks are highly sought after. This example will be a star attraction at £25,000. Alternatively, W.R.Harvey also offer plenty of furniture and paintings at more affordable prices including a set of four copper and brass measuring jugs, made circa 1850 and perfect for the ‘unfitted’ kitchen at £135.
Also eye-catching will be a pair of legendary and much sought-after early Edwardian candlesticks by James Dixon & Sons, measuring 22cms tall, on the stand of Worcester dealer Antiquarium, priced at £2,750.
Pottery, porcelain and glass will include a collection of Parian ware busts of classical and historic figures on the stand of Drove House Antiques. Particularly interesting will be an early Copeland Parian figure of the Dice Player dating from around 1851 at £450. Drove House also offer Chinese Blue & White including a Qianlong platter decorated with a typical landscape scene at £185 and an exquisite Ming dish with lotus design at £275.
Jupiter Antiques also specialize in porcelain and promise pieces from many of the major factories including Bow, Derby, Lowestoft, Longton Hall, Caughley and Chelsea.
Lakes Antiques will be offering a collection of rare and interesting boxes: tea caddies, writing boxes, sewing boxes and many more, with prices from £50.
For collectors of the unusual, and anyone interested in eye-catching decorative pieces for the home, Not Wanted On Voyage complete their display with stylish Mid-Century furniture to unusual salvage items.
Aquila Fine Art will be showing watercolour paintings by 19th and 20th century artists including several local views, notably a charming depiction of typical Cotswolds cottages by Murray Bernard Bladon (1864-1939).
Foxhouse Fine Art show original sporting prints by George Vernon Stokes, watercolours by artists including Claude Strachan and collector’s pieces including bronzes, porcelain, jewellery and glass.
