Full steam ahead in toy sale
It was full steam ahead at North Yorkshire auction house Tennants’ recent sale of Toy, Models & Collectables, with a collection of Aster Gauge 1 locomotives proving particularly in demand.
The group of twelve Aster models fetched an impressive collective hammer price of £36,700 with the top hammer price of £5,500 going to a model of a 4-6-6-4 Union Pacific Challenger Locomotive with Tender. Aster models are very well engineered and this group, having been professionally constructed, were particularly appealing for enthusiasts.
Strong prices were also seen for other model locomotives, such as an O Gauge Finescale Model of 4-6-0 King Class Locomotive King George V BR6000, which sold for £5,000 and an Accucraft Gauge 1 2-6-2+2-6-2 South African Railway Beyer-Garratt Locomotive, which sold for £2,300.
However, it wasn’t just the model locomotives that proved a hit in the sale – other items of Railwayana also sold well, with a British Rail (Southern) Totem for Waterloo selling for £2,800, a Southern Railway Target for Swanage selling for £1,400 and an extensive and unique archive of railway photographs and postcards and locomotive pictures selling for £1,500.
The sale resulted in a total hammer price of £130,350.
