Lucie Rie pottery in Gloucestershire sale
Two studio pottery pieces by sought-after Modernist potter Dame Lucie Rie (1902-1995) are to go under the hammer at Gloucestershire auctioneers, Chorley’s next week.
Taking place on October 9, the sale will include an emerald green glaze and bronze manganese drip rim stoneware bowl, circa 1980, with an estimated value of £20,000-£30,000, and a porcelain vase with flared rim, in a manganese and blue glaze, scraffito detailing set to sell for £7,000-£9,000, both impressed with her seal.
Rie’s unique aesthetic and her distinctive use of colour and texture have resulted in her pieces being much in demand, with a large fanbase in Europe and Asia. Prices for her pottery have steadily rising since her death in 1995.
